MR Biopsy

Interventional radiology uses minimally invasive techniques – needles instead of scalpels – to evaluate and treat a variety of diseases in the body. We perform Stereotactic and Ultrasound Guided Breast Biopsy's as well as MR Guided Breast Biopsy's.

 

About Breast Biopsies:

 
  1. The breast is imaged to identify the area of interest
  2. Once the area is found, your physician will cleanse the skin and give you a local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort.
  3. Once the probe is positioned, it gently vacuums and removes tissue for examination and evaluation. Your physician may re-image the site and take more samples.
  4. To monitor your breast health, your doctor may place a biopsy site identifier to mark the biopsy site future follow up. This marker is very small and will not be able to feel it once it is placed in your breast.
  5. Pressure is applied to the biopsy site for a few minutes and a small adhesive bandage is used to close the single incision.
